Car fell into a ditch: 8 Ayyappa devotees died

Bengaluru: Two seriously injured people have been admitted to the hospital and are being treated. Among these is a 3-year-old child. Eight Ayyappa devotees died after a car fell into a ditch in Theni district on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Friday night. According to District Collector KV Muralidharan, a tragedy occurred in Kumili Parvat area, and the car carrying Ayyappa devotees fell into a ditch about 40 feet deep. Car fell into a ditch: 8 Ayyappa devotees died.

All the passengers in the car were residents of Theni-Andipetti. Police said there were a total of 10 people in the car when the accident occurred.Seven people died on the spot in the accident. One died en route to hospital. Two seriously injured people have been admitted to the hospital and are being treated. Among these is a 3-year-old child.

 The police have registered a case regarding the accident and are continuing the investigation. The road was not visible due to heavy fog in this area. It is suspected that this may be the main reason for the accident.For the last two years, Sabarimala Ayyappa Swami Yatra was restricted due to Covid. Now that the restrictions have been lifted, thousands of devotees are visiting the holy site every day. Devotees from different states of India come for this pilgrimage called Mandalam-Makaravilakku. An average of 10 to 15 lakh people visit Sabarimala every year.
