Lawyer who attempted to throw shoe at CJI Gavai says he has no regrets, ready for jail

The lawyer who attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai inside the Supreme Court, Rakesh Kishore, has said he has no remorse for his act and stands by his decision. Speaking to the media, Kishore declared that he is prepared to face imprisonment and will not apologize for his actions.

“I have no regrets; my decision was right. I am ready to face jail. I will not seek forgiveness,” Kishore said, adding that he has no political affiliation and that it was “divine inspiration” that led him to act.

He claimed that during the hearing of the Khajuraho petition, CJI Gavai’s remarks deeply disturbed him. “I couldn’t sleep that night. Later, when the Chief Justice said in Mauritius that India’s legal system is governed by the rule of law and not by bulldozer justice, it made me very unhappy,” Kishore stated.

Kishore, who claims to hold a PhD in medical entomology from Banaras Hindu University and has previously served as an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO), insisted that he is mentally stable and fully aware of his actions.

“I know my family is upset with what I did, but I am ready to face any consequences. I will bear everything in the name of God,” he added.

The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with leaders across political lines condemning the act as an attack on the dignity of the judiciary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several legal bodies have termed the incident “unacceptable” and called for strict action against the lawyer.
