Earthquake hits in Delhi; Earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Nepal

NEW DELHI: A magnitude 5.4 earthquake jolted Nepal on Saturday evening with tremors being felt across Delhi-NCR and other parts of north India. Many users took to Twitter, saying they felt tremors around 7:57pm. Earthquake in Delhi; Earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Nepal.

“An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred in Nepal, at around 7:57pm, today. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground,” the National Center for Seismology said. Delhi and its neighbouring cities witnessed earthquake tremors on Saturday.

National Center for Seismology cited, the depth of the earthquake (in Nepal) was 10 km below the ground. No casualties or reports of damage following the earthquake in Delhi and neighbouring areas have come through yet.

This comes only a few days after the residents across the region were shaken by tremors from a magnitude 6.3 earthquake epicentred in western Nepal.Strong tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR on Saturday evening after an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Nepal.

The quake hit at around 7.57 pm on Saturday. The epicentre was Nepal, according to the National Center for Seismology Tremors were also felt in parts of Uttarakhand, including cities like New Tehri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Pauri and others.

This was the second such jolt in less than a week. Earlier, an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude hit Nepal in the wee hours of Wednesday, November 9, which killed at least six people in the neighboring country. The tremors of that earthquake were also felt in parts of the Delhi-NCR region.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, strong tremors were felt in Delhi around 2 am after a 6.3-magnitude quake struck in Nepal. The depth of that earthquake was about 10 km, according to the National Center for Seismology. Six persons were killed and eight others injured in Nepal.
