Breaking: Delhi earthquake; 2.1 magnitude tremor hits Punjabi Bagh area

New Delhi: A low-intensity earthquake with a magnitude 2.1 on the Richter Scale hit Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Sunday afternoon, confirmed the National Center for Seismology. The tremors were felt at around 12.02 pm and according to the seismology centre, the depth of the quake was 7 km.

The epicentre of the quake was at Punjabi Bagh – 28.67 degrees North latitude and 77.14 degrees East longitude – with a depth of 7 km, it said. There have been no reports of any injuries, loss of life or damage to property from local authorities or sources. The seismic activity in Delhi has come several hours after a series of earthquakes jolted the northeastern states.

Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, all witnessed tremors in a span of around 24 hours. According to local authorities, no damage to property or loss of life was reported in the quake-hit regions. Assam rocked by 4.2-magnitude quake, fifth tremor to hit region in 24 hours

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck Assam in the early hours of Saturday, the fifth such tremor to hit the northeastern region during the past 24 hours. A National Center for Seismology report said the latest quake was recorded at 1.07 am, with its epicentre near Tezpur, the headquarter of Sonitpur district, at a depth of 30 kms.
