Delivery boy robbed at knifepoint, ₹49,000 siphoned via online transfer in Bengaluru

Bengaluru : Incidents of targeting late-night delivery workers continue to rise in Bengaluru, with yet another case reported near Nexus Mall. A 19-year-old delivery boy was allegedly threatened and assaulted by a group of three miscreants, who forcibly transferred ₹49,000 from his account through an online payment application.
The incident, which took place around 1:30 am on March 31, came to light only recently after the victim approached the police. The complainant, identified as Gopikishan, hails from Uttar Pradesh and currently resides in Tavarekere, Suddaguntepalya. A student by background, he had taken up part-time work as a delivery executive to support his education.
According to the complaint, Gopikishan and his friend Omkar were waiting outside Nexus Mall for delivery orders when three unidentified individuals approached them. The accused reportedly demanded money and assaulted both youths, targeting their faces and hands.
When they failed to find any cash, the attackers allegedly snatched Gopikishan’s mobile phone and forced him to reveal the password to his digital payment application. They then transferred ₹49,000 to their own account before fleeing the spot.
Following the robbery, the accused allegedly threatened the victim with dire consequences if he reported the incident to the police. Initially shaken by the attack, Gopikishan refrained from filing a complaint. However, after discussions with his family and friends, he later approached the Adugodi Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the area and working to identify the suspects involved.
The case has once again raised concerns over the safety of delivery personnel working late-night shifts in the city. With increasing dependence on app-based delivery services, such workers often operate in isolated conditions, making them vulnerable targets for criminals.
Authorities have urged delivery workers to remain cautious, avoid poorly lit areas, and report suspicious activity immediately. Meanwhile, police have assured that efforts are underway to track down the accused and bring them to justice.
