Acid attack during family mediation shocks Kolar; woman critically injured

Kolar : A disturbing case of violence has come to light from Azad Nagar in Kolar, where a woman allegedly carried out an acid attack on her relative during a family mediation over an alleged illicit relationship. The victim, Muskaan, suffered serious burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
Police said the accused, Ayesha, is related to the victim through marriage. Muskaan is the wife of the younger brother of Ayesha’s husband, Shahbaz Ahmed. According to preliminary findings, Shahbaz had been extending financial assistance to Muskaan, as her husband was reportedly addicted to alcohol and unable to support the household.
Investigators suspect that during this period, Shahbaz and Muskaan developed a close relationship, which later triggered tension within the family. About three months ago, the duo had reportedly left Kolar and stayed in Bengaluru. They were recently traced by relatives and brought back, following which efforts were made to resolve the issue amicably.
A ‘raji panchayat’ (informal mediation) was organised on Wednesday night at a relative’s residence. However, the situation spiralled out of control when an argument broke out among family members.
“During the heated exchange, the accused suddenly attacked the victim with acid that she had allegedly brought along,” a police officer said. “The act appears intentional and planned.”
After the attack, Ayesha fled from the spot, creating panic among those present. Police from Galpete Police Station rushed to the location upon receiving information and immediately shifted the injured woman to the hospital.
“The victim was in severe distress. Our team acted quickly and ensured she received medical attention without delay,” the officer added.
Senior police officials, including the district Superintendent of Police, visited the scene to assess the situation. A case has been registered under stringent sections dealing with acid attack and grievous assault.
Police later tracked down and detained the accused, who had gone into hiding after the incident. “We have taken the accused into custody and further investigation is underway,” an official confirmed.
The incident has triggered concern across the district, once again highlighting how personal disputes can escalate into extreme violence. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
Further updates on the victim’s health condition and the progress of the investigation are expected in the coming days.
