President Droupadi Murmu to attend Shivakumara Swamiji’s 119th birth anniversary in Tumakuru

Tumakuru : Preparations are in full swing for the 119th birth anniversary and Guruvandana programme of revered seer Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji, scheduled to be held on April 1 at the historic Siddaganga Mutt. The event has gained added significance as President Droupadi Murmu is set to attend the function .
Addressing a press conference at Siddaganga Mutt, Siddalinga Swamiji said the visit of the President is a moment of pride for the institution and the district. “It is a matter of great honour that the President of India, who comes from a humble and tribal background, is visiting our Mutt. The entire Tumakuru district is eagerly awaiting her arrival,” he said.
The event will also witness the presence of several dignitaries, including Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, and senior state leaders such as V. Somanna, G. Parameshwara, M.B. Patil, and Lakshmi Hebbalkar.
Organisers have decided to keep the programme brief this year due to ongoing SSLC examinations. The main event will be held from 11 am to 12:30 pm, followed by limited activities. “We have intentionally reduced the scale of celebrations so that students appearing for exams are not disturbed,” Siddalinga Swamiji clarified.
The day will begin with special puja at the Gadduge, followed by a procession at 7:30 am. Cultural programmes including veena recital and vachana singing by 119 women are also part of the schedule. The traditional ‘Dasoha’ (community meal) will be arranged for devotees, as per annual practice.
Authorities have also issued guidelines for attendees, restricting items such as umbrellas and water bottles within the premises to ensure smooth conduct of the programme .
Meanwhile, Siddalinga Swamiji appealed to devotees not to campaign for Bharat Ratna recognition for Shivakumara Swamiji. “Such honours should not be sought or demanded. Let recognition come on its own merit,” he said.
With elaborate arrangements underway and high-profile personalities is expected, Tumakuru is gearing up for a spiritually significant and dignified celebration.
