Fraud allegations surface against actor Dwarakish’s daughter-in-law; multiple complaints filed

Bengaluru : Serious allegations of financial fraud have been levelled against Varsha Rai, the daughter-in-law of veteran Kannada actor Dwarakish. More than ten people have reportedly filed complaints accusing her of cheating them in financial transactions involving chit funds, cash and gold.

Varsha Rai is the wife of Samarth, son of Shailaja Kumari, the second wife of actor Dwarakish. According to the complainants, she had been running various financial dealings with people over the past three years and allegedly cheated several individuals after collecting money and valuables from them.

The controversy intensified after a man identified as Ramana Reddy, who had reportedly given ₹6 lakh to Varsha Rai, went to demand the return of his money. According to sources, an argument broke out between the two on the street. During the confrontation, Varsha Rai allegedly assaulted Ramana Reddy with a broom in public.

The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera and the footage has now gone viral on social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and criticism.

Complainants claim that Varsha Rai had convinced several people to invest money by promising returns through chit fund schemes. Victims allege that she developed friendly relationships with people who visited a grocery store in the area and persuaded them to invest in financial schemes, only to later refuse repayment.

Apart from cash transactions, she is also accused of taking gold ornaments from several individuals. According to allegations, around 110 grams of gold jewellery was collected from victims with promises of returns or safe investment but was never returned.

One of the complainants, identified as Sukanya, has alleged that she lost ₹35,000 after trusting Varsha Rai’s financial proposals. Similar complaints have been raised by several others who claim they were cheated through different schemes.

Victims have further alleged that when they approached Varsha Rai demanding repayment of their money, she allegedly threatened them and warned that she would file false complaints against them with the police.

Police sources said multiple complaints have already been registered against her at RR Nagar Police Station and Kengeri Police Station. Authorities have begun investigating the allegations and are collecting statements from the complainants.

The case has attracted significant public attention because of the connection to actor Dwarakish, who is regarded as a prominent figure in the Kannada film industry.

Residents and victims have expressed anger over the alleged fraud and have urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify the total number of victims involved.
