Chikkaballapur: A high-value pig theft in Burudugunte village, Chintamani taluk, has been solved by the Kancharlahalli police, who apprehended one of the main suspects and recovered ₹3 lakh in cash obtained from the sale of the stolen livestock.
The stolen pigs, valued at approximately Rs 4.5 lakh, were kept in open sheds by local resident Venkataapati on his farmland. Venkataapati had constructed nine open sheds over the past year, housing around 25 large pigs weighing between 100–150 kg and 85 smaller pigs weighing 30–40 kg.
On the night of November 5, he went home after checking the pigs, and on the morning of November 6, he discovered that the pigs had been stolen. The thieves had cut through the iron fencing of the sheds to carry out the theft. Due to difficulties in tracking the animals across locations, the complaint was filed after some delay, on November 9.
Initial investigations pointed toward Krishnaappa, who runs a pig mutton shop in Kariyapalli village, Muragamalla Road, Chintamani. Acting on these leads, under the guidance of SP Kushal Chaukse, Kancharlahalli Police formed a team led by Inspector G.C. Narayanaswamy, assisted by PSI Jagadeesh and staff members Amaresh P.N. Jagadeesh, Vishwanath, Narayan, Mallikarjun, and Dvaleshwar Lokesh.
The team successfully arrested 29-year-old Anand Bin Potul from Lenin Nagar in neighboring Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, where the accused was engaged in pig rearing. During interrogation, Anand admitted to committing the theft along with four accomplices.
He had sold the stolen pigs in B-Kottakota, Andhra Pradesh, and kept the proceeds at his residence. Police recovered ₹3 lakh in cash from him. Anand has been formally charged and remanded to judicial custody.
The Kancharlahalli police have confirmed that the remaining accomplices are still at large, along with the vehicle used in the crime, and efforts are underway to apprehend them soon. Inspector G.C. Narayanaswamy assured that strict action will be taken against all involved, emphasizing the department’s commitment to safeguarding rural livestock and deterring such high-value thefts in the region.
This swift resolution has provided relief to local farmers who face ongoing challenges in protecting their livestock, highlighting the importance of coordinated policing and community vigilance in rural areas.
