Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Set to Bring Expanded Rear Display Features

Xiaomi is preparing to introduce its next flagship smartphone lineup in China, and the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is expected to bring a notable change to the rear panel. The company has revealed that the phones will feature an upgraded secondary display with more practical functions than the previous generation.

The rear screen is being described as a Versatile Back Screen. Instead of serving only as a decorative or basic information display, the secondary screen will allow users to access selected small applications directly.

Xiaomi has indicated that these applications could include useful everyday tools. A water drinking reminder is one example mentioned for the rear display. The screen could also be used for English vocabulary practice, giving the secondary panel a purpose beyond photography and notifications.

The new approach builds on the rear display introduced with the Xiaomi 17 Pro series last year. That generation featured the MiShare back screen, while Xiaomi appears to be expanding the concept with additional functionality in the upcoming models.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is expected to include the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. Xiaomi has confirmed that the new Pro series will be launched in China this month, although the company has not yet announced the exact launch date.

Performance could also receive a major upgrade. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max has reportedly appeared on Geekbench with the model number M1544F. The listing suggests that the smartphone could use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro hardware.

The same listing indicates that the device could run on a new version of HyperOS based on Android 17. Geekbench reportedly recorded 3,582 points in the single core test and 12,247 points in the multi core test. These details are based on the reported benchmark listing, while Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the complete specifications.

Camera hardware could be another highlight of the upcoming lineup. The standard Xiaomi 18 is expected to receive a 200MP primary camera as part of its rear camera system. The camera specifications are not fully confirmed yet, so details about the supporting sensors remain unknown.

More information about the standard Xiaomi 18 has also emerged through reports and tipster claims. The smartphone could be offered in White, Pink, Blue, Red and Black colour options. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed this colour lineup.

The display on the Xiaomi 18 could measure around 6.4 inches and feature a 2K resolution. Reports suggest the screen may have rounded corners and narrow bezels, giving the phone a compact flagship appearance.

The rear design could retain a square shaped camera module similar to the Xiaomi 17. At the same time, the company is expected to make improvements to the battery, although the exact capacity and charging specifications have not yet been revealed.

The Xiaomi 17 series was introduced in China in September last year, establishing the product line that the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series is expected to succeed. The new generation is therefore likely to focus on improvements across the display, performance, photography and battery departments.

For Xiaomi, the expanded rear screen may become one of the most distinctive features of the new Pro models. Giving users access to small applications directly from the back of the phone could make the secondary display more useful in everyday situations.

However, several specifications remain based on reports rather than official announcements. Xiaomi is yet to reveal the final launch date, pricing, complete camera details and full hardware configuration of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series.
