Rahul Gandhi Defamation Complaint Leads to FIR Against Three Instagram Accounts in Bengaluru

The Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police have registered a First Information Report against three Instagram accounts following allegations that they shared defamatory and offensive content targeting Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The case was filed after a complaint submitted by a member of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Legal Cell, prompting investigators to begin examining the origin and circulation of the disputed social media posts.

According to the complaint, the controversial content was uploaded on Instagram and allegedly contained remarks that were insulting and damaging to Rahul Gandhi’s public image. The complainant argued that the posts were deliberately designed to tarnish the reputation of a senior political leader and spread objectionable material across social media platforms.

Police sources said the FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bengaluru on July 27 after officials reviewed the complaint. Investigators have now started collecting digital evidence and identifying the individuals responsible for operating the accounts mentioned in the case. Authorities are expected to examine online activity, account ownership details, and other technical evidence as part of the investigation.

One of the Instagram accounts named in the complaint is reportedly ground.reality_india. According to the allegations, the account uploaded a video lasting around thirty seconds on July 16. The clip reportedly carried the caption asking why the opposition remained silent and allegedly included objectionable comments directed at Rahul Gandhi. The complainant claimed the content crossed acceptable limits of public discourse and was intended to insult the Congress leader.

The complaint further stated that the video was accompanied by comments that allegedly contained provocative and defamatory language. Besides the account that uploaded the video, two other Instagram users identified as raashtravaadhi2 and manvithamanojsamanvi have also been named in the FIR. They have been accused of posting comments below the video that allegedly contributed to the offensive nature of the discussion.

Cyber Crime Police are now working to trace the administrators and users behind these accounts. Officials are expected to seek technical information required to establish the identities of those involved and determine whether any provisions under applicable laws related to online content and defamation have been violated. Investigators may also examine whether additional accounts participated in spreading or amplifying the disputed material.

The registration of the FIR does not establish guilt, but it formally begins the legal investigation process. Police will review digital records, preserve online evidence where necessary, and question individuals connected to the accounts before deciding on further legal action. Officials have not announced any arrests in connection with the case so far.

The incident once again highlights the growing role of cyber crime units in monitoring complaints related to social media activity.
