Karnataka High Court Grants Interim Relief to BJP MLC CT Ravi in FIR Case
The Karnataka High Court has granted temporary protection to BJP MLC CT Ravi and directed police not to take coercive action until the next hearing scheduled on July 31.
BJP Legislative Council member CT Ravi has received temporary relief from the Karnataka High Court in connection with an FIR registered over his remarks related to protests against the NEET examination issue. The court has directed police not to initiate any coercive action against him until the next hearing, offering short term protection as legal proceedings continue.
The controversy began after comments allegedly made by Ravi during discussions surrounding protests over the NEET examination. His statements triggered criticism from sections of the Muslim community, leading to complaints and demands for legal action. Following a complaint filed by Jamia Mosque Committee president Mudassir, police in Chikkamagaluru registered a case against the BJP leader.
The FIR, which was initially registered at the Chikkamagaluru Town Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, has now been transferred to the Special Court for Elected Representatives in Bengaluru. The transfer is expected to streamline further proceedings related to the case.
During the hearing before the Karnataka High Court, senior counsel appearing for CT Ravi argued that the complaint had been filed by a third party and sought an interim stay on the FIR proceedings. The state, however, opposed the plea and contended that Ravi had allegedly not cooperated with notices issued by investigators.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court postponed further consideration of the matter to July 31. Until then, the bench instructed the police not to take any forceful or coercive measures against the BJP leader.
Police had earlier issued notices to Ravi on two occasions asking him to appear for investigation. Officials also reportedly visited his residence and served notices as part of the inquiry process. With the case now moved to Bengaluru and the High Court granting interim protection, attention will shift to the next hearing, where further legal directions are expected.
The case has attracted political attention in Karnataka, with leaders from both ruling and opposition parties closely watching the developments. The High Court’s interim order does not decide the merits of the allegations, but it provides temporary relief to CT Ravi while the legal process moves forward.
