FIR Filed Against BJP MLC CT Ravi Over Remarks Linked to NEET Protest
An FIR has been registered against BJP MLC CT Ravi following allegations that his remarks during a public gathering promoted communal hatred in connection with the NEET protest controversy.
A First Information Report has been registered against BJP Member of the Legislative Council CT Ravi following allegations that he made inflammatory remarks while addressing a public gathering in Chikkamagaluru. The case relates to statements reportedly made during discussions surrounding protests over the alleged NEET examination paper leak.
The FIR was registered by Chikkamagaluru Town Police following directions from the Principal Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The complaint has been filed under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with allegations involving statements that may promote enmity or disturb public harmony.
The complaint was submitted by Mudasir Pasha, president of Jamia Masjid in Chikkamagaluru. According to the complaint, the BJP leader made remarks referring to members of the Muslim community while speaking at a gathering organised after a protest march conducted by the Youth for Nation organisation.
The complainant alleged that the statements were communal in nature and had the potential to disturb peace and harmony among different communities. He further claimed that the remarks unfairly targeted Muslims and sought legal action against the BJP leader for his public comments.
According to the FIR, CT Ravi reportedly questioned the participation of Muslim religious leaders in demonstrations related to the NEET controversy. He also allegedly linked the protests with issues such as the Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Register of Citizens and individuals he described as anti national elements. The reported remarks have since attracted widespread attention and political criticism.
The Karnataka State Muslim Federation has also strongly objected to the statements. The organisation alleged that attempts were being made to introduce communal narratives into an issue related to education and examination irregularities. Federation representatives have demanded immediate legal action and called for the arrest of the BJP leader over the alleged remarks.
In a statement, the federation said protests over the alleged NEET paper leak were primarily being led by students and young people seeking accountability. It accused certain political leaders of attempting to shift the focus of the issue by bringing religious references into the debate instead of addressing concerns related to the examination process.
The registration of the FIR has added a new political dimension to the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET protests. Police have initiated legal proceedings based on the court’s direction and are expected to examine the complaint, available evidence and other relevant materials as part of the investigation. The matter is now set to proceed through the legal process in accordance with the law.
