Lalbagh Flower Show 2026 to Celebrate the Glorious Legacy of the Ganga Dynasty

Preparations are in full swing for the 220th Lalbagh Flower Show, which will be held in Bengaluru from August 6 to August 17 as part of the Independence Day celebrations. This year’s exhibition will blend horticultural artistry with Karnataka’s rich history by paying tribute to the Ganga dynasty, one of the most influential royal families that ruled southern Karnataka for centuries.

The Department of Horticulture has chosen the Ganga dynasty as the central theme to highlight its lasting contributions to Kannada language, literature, architecture, irrigation, education, and culture. Visitors can expect elaborate floral installations that recreate some of the dynasty’s most significant historical landmarks, offering a unique experience that combines history with the beauty of millions of flowers.

One of the main attractions inside the iconic Glass House will be a magnificent floral replica of the ancient Naganatheshwara Temple at Begur, a structure that is believed to be around 1300 years old. The temple is historically significant because it contains one of the earliest known inscriptions mentioning the name Bengaluru. The Panchalinga temple, which houses this rare Kannada inscription dating back to 390 CE, is expected to become one of the exhibition’s biggest highlights.

The exhibition will also showcase floral recreations of several monuments associated with the Ganga rulers. Among them will be the famous Jain Basadi at Shravanabelagola, built by the renowned Ganga minister Chamundaraya. Visitors will also see artistic floral representations of Lord Neminatha, the twenty second Jain Tirthankara, the iconic Gomateshwara statue, and the Yoganandeeshwara Temple located at Nandi Hills.

Adding to the historical experience, the flower show will feature floral sculptures of notable Ganga rulers, including Dadiga, Kongunivarma, Sripurusha, and Rachamalla. The traditional Ganga flag pillar will also be recreated, giving visitors a glimpse into the royal symbols and architectural heritage of the dynasty.

According to Horticulture Department Director Jagadish, the exhibition has been planned to introduce visitors to the remarkable legacy of the Ganga rulers, whose contributions shaped many aspects of Karnataka’s cultural and historical identity. He said the event aims to educate younger generations while presenting history in a visually engaging and memorable way.

The twelve day exhibition is expected to attract thousands of visitors, including gardening enthusiasts, history lovers, students, and tourists from across the country. Beyond its breathtaking floral arrangements, the show promises to serve as a celebration of Karnataka’s rich heritage, allowing visitors to explore the artistic brilliance and historical significance of the Ganga dynasty through creative floral displays.
