Anthropic Introduces Claude AI Subscription Plans in Indian Rupees for Local Users

Anthropic has introduced local pricing for its Claude AI subscription plans in India, making it easier for users to pay in Indian rupees instead of US dollars. The move is expected to simplify the subscription process by eliminating currency conversion concerns and additional foreign transaction charges that many users previously faced.

The company said India has become its second largest market after the United States, prompting the decision to introduce region specific pricing. While users can now purchase subscriptions in rupees, payments are currently supported through cards and app store billing. UPI is not yet available as a payment option.

The Claude Pro plan is now available in India at a monthly price of Rs 2000 for users who choose annual billing, bringing the yearly cost to Rs 24000. Those who prefer paying every month can subscribe for Rs 2399 per month.

The Pro subscription offers access to the Claude Sonnet 5 model as the default experience. Subscribers can also use additional models such as Opus and Fable 5 where available. Compared to the free plan, the usage limit is significantly higher, allowing users to complete more tasks without reaching restrictions quickly.

Other features included with the Claude Pro plan include Research Mode for more detailed information gathering, web search capabilities, file uploads and voice mode support. These tools are designed to improve productivity for users who rely on AI for work, study and everyday tasks.

For users with more demanding requirements, Anthropic has introduced the Claude Max plan in India starting at Rs 11999 per month. This subscription is aimed at professionals who regularly work with large documents, software development, research projects and other intensive AI workflows.

The Max plan provides much higher usage limits than the Pro subscription, making it suitable for extended conversations and complex projects. It also offers improved access to advanced models such as Sonnet 5, Opus and Fable 5, along with support for Claude Code and other advanced AI productivity features. Developers, researchers and business users are expected to benefit the most from this plan.

Anthropic continues to offer a free version of Claude AI for users who do not require premium capabilities. The free plan includes basic chat functionality, limited usage quotas and access to selected AI models. It is suitable for everyday conversations and simple tasks, although advanced features and higher usage limits remain exclusive to paid subscribers.

By introducing pricing in Indian rupees, Anthropic has removed one of the biggest barriers for local users interested in its AI platform. The new pricing structure makes subscriptions more transparent and convenient, while also helping users avoid the extra costs that were previously associated with international payments.
