New HMD smartphone brings large battery, AI powered photography, modern design and 5G connectivity as company prepares mid range launch in India on 21 May with Flipkart availability expected soon after launch

HMD has officially confirmed the launch date of its upcoming smartphone HMD Vibe 2 5G in India. The device will be introduced on 21 May, and it will go on sale through Flipkart after the launch. The company has also updated its dedicated microsite, revealing key specifications and design details that have started attracting attention among smartphone users looking for an affordable 5G option.
The design of the phone suggests a simple yet modern approach. It features a flat frame and a dual tone rear panel. On the back, there is a rectangular camera module placed at the top left, which houses two camera sensors along with an LED flash. The HMD branding is positioned at the bottom center of the back panel. The smartphone will be available in three colour options including Cosmic Lavender, Nordic Blue and Peach Pink.
Camera performance is one of the highlighted features of the HMD Vibe 2 5G. The company has confirmed that it will come with a 50MP AI powered primary camera. While details about the secondary rear sensor are still not revealed, the setup is expected to focus on improved image processing and better everyday photography results.
Battery life is another strong point of this device. The phone will carry a massive 6000mAh battery, designed to support long hours of usage without frequent charging. It will also support 18W wired charging, which should help users recharge the device at a steady pace during daily use.
The layout of the phone also includes practical hardware placements. On the right side, users will find the power button and volume controls, while the SIM tray is located on the left side. The device also includes a USB Type C port, speaker grill, secondary microphone cutout and a 3.5mm audio jack, which is still preferred by many users for wired audio use.
From the front, the smartphone is expected to feature a flat display with a centre positioned punch hole camera cutout. This will likely house the selfie camera, which will be used for video calls and basic photography. The design suggests a clean and minimal front look, keeping modern trends in mind.
Although several key features have been revealed, some important details such as processor, pricing and full specifications are still under wraps. The company is expected to share more information closer to the launch date. For now, the confirmed launch of HMD Vibe 2 5G on 21 May has already created curiosity among budget 5G smartphone buyers in India.
