Sudhakar health row turns political as jds hits back at son’s video

Bengaluru : The health condition of Karnataka minister D. Sudhakar has taken a sharp political turn, with statements by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy triggering a fresh war of words. As Sudhakar continues to receive treatment at KIMS Hospital near Electronic City, questions over transparency and political messaging have intensified.
Kumaraswamy had earlier raised concerns over the minister’s condition, questioning why certain details were allegedly being withheld. His remarks, including references to possible pressure and lack of clarity, sparked strong reactions from the minister’s family. In response, Sudhakar’s son Suhas released a video expressing displeasure over what he termed as politicisation of a sensitive health issue.
In the video, Suhas stated that his father is responding to treatment and expressed confidence in his recovery. He also acknowledged the support extended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and other leaders who visited the hospital.
However, the Janata Dal (Secular) has countered the video, alleging that it appeared scripted and edited multiple times. In a post on social media platform X, the party questioned whether the statement was made under pressure and demanded to know who was behind the “forced narrative”.
The party further pointed to alleged inconsistencies in official updates. It noted that a health bulletin issued before the Chief Minister’s visit mentioned that Sudhakar was on ventilator support and unconscious. Yet, a photograph taken during D.K. Shivakumar’s visit the following day did not show any ventilator equipment, raising questions about the accuracy of information being shared.
JDS has demanded greater transparency from both the government and the hospital, stating that the public deserves clear and consistent updates on the minister’s condition. The controversy has now added a political layer to an already sensitive situation.
