Abandoned and distressed, young woman commits horrific act after childbirth

Bengaluru  : A shocking and tragic incident unfolded in Devanahalli taluk of Bengaluru Rural district, where a young woman allegedly killed her newborn baby moments after giving birth inside a factory restroom. The incident has raised serious concerns over social stigma, lack of support systems, and the vulnerability of young women in distress.

The accused, Renuka (19), hailing from Yadgir, had recently joined a prominent manufacturing unit in Beerasandra village. Police sources revealed that she had been in a relationship with a युवक who later abandoned her upon learning of her pregnancy and married another woman. Left without emotional or social support, Renuka reportedly concealed her pregnancy.

Living with her sister and brother-in-law, Renuka had moved to a rented house in Doddaballapura after securing employment nearly a month ago. On the day of the incident, she developed labour pain while at work and rushed to the restroom, where she gave birth to a premature baby.

Investigators believe that, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty, she took the extreme step of killing the infant using a sharp-edged metal object available in the restroom. She allegedly placed the baby in the toilet basin and tried to dispose of the body by flushing water.

The incident came to light when another employee entered the restroom and discovered the remains of the infant. The factory management immediately informed the police. A team from Viswanathapura Police Station reached the scene, recovered the body, and admitted Renuka to a hospital for treatment.

Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation. Authorities are also looking into whether the man involved can be brought under legal scrutiny. The incident highlights the urgent need for awareness, mental health support, and stronger safety nets for vulnerable individuals facing crisis situations.
