National Health Commission spokesperson statement:

A spokesperson for the National Health Commission said the respiratory infections being reported recently are caused by common bacteria such as influenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus or RSV, adenovirus and Mycoplasma pneumonia.

Lockdown clearance is a major cause of disease spread:

The lifting of the strict lockdown is said to be the biggest reason for the spread of the disease. And this is the first winter there. As far as we know about infections in children, every child under the age of 5 gets 3-8 viral infections a year, and with each infection they develop immunity. Then after 5 years the infection rate decreases.

Chinese children who cannot leave their homes due to the lockdown have not developed their immune systems, making them more susceptible to infection. These are the suggestions given by WHO to protect against this disease.

The health agency has recommended that people in affected areas follow general rules to avoid respiratory illnesses.
These include getting vaccinated, isolating if symptoms appear, and getting tested or wearing masks if needed. The Ministry of Health in India said, “In view of the onset of influenza and winter, it is important to be cautious. The Government of India is closely monitoring the situation.”

The Union Health Secretary has advised an immediate review of public health and hospital preparedness such as availability of medical oxygen, antibiotics, test kits, oxygen plants, medicines and vaccines.
