WhatsApp banned 72 lakh accounts in India

The action was taken based on the violation of WhatsApp terms of service and user complaints, according to which 7,228,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned, Meta said. Earlier in May WhatsApp had said that it had banned 6,508,000 accounts in India.

popular messaging platform WhatsApp, owned by Meta, blocked the accounts of more than 72 lakh Indians last July. WhatsApp has taken this decision under Section 4(1)(D) of the User Protection Act, 2021. Many complaints were received during July 01-31.

The action was taken based on the violation of WhatsApp terms of service and user complaints, according to which 7,228,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned, Meta said. Earlier in May WhatsApp had said that it had banned 6,508,000 accounts in India.

Banned accounts are found to be harassing, forwarding fake information, defrauding other users. Also these accounts are banned for engaging in harmful activities. New IT rules that came into effect on May 26 require large digital platforms (more than 5 million users) to publish reports every month.

This report should clarify the complaints received and action taken. WhatsApp is paying more attention to the security of its users. But it will penalize subscribers who do the opposite. A spokesperson said, “WhatsApp is at the forefront of abuse prevention, paying more attention to end-to-end encrypted messaging services.

As per WhatsApp terms and conditions, you will be banned by WhatsApp if you send illegal, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, hateful messages. WhatsApp can ban you for sending messages that incite or promote violent crimes. Users will soon get the benefit of the new e-mail verification feature on WhatsApp.
