OnePlus appears to be preparing its next major flagship smartphone, with the OnePlus 16 expected to arrive as the successor to the OnePlus 15. The company has already started teasing some of the handset’s key features, indicating that the launch may not be far away.
The display is one of the features attracting attention. OnePlus has revealed that the upcoming phone will support a refresh rate of up to 165Hz. A faster refresh rate can make scrolling feel smoother and can be particularly useful in games that support high frame rates.
The software experience is also set for an important change. The OnePlus 16 is expected to run Android 17 based ColorOS 17, potentially making it the first OnePlus smartphone to arrive with this version of the software.
OnePlus shared a teaser for the smartphone on Weibo, giving users an early look at what the company is preparing. While the company has not disclosed every specification, the teaser confirms that the display and software will be among the major talking points.
Battery capacity could represent another substantial upgrade. The OnePlus 16 is rumoured to pack a 9000mAh battery, which would be considerably larger than the 7300mAh battery found in the OnePlus 15.
Charging is expected to remain fast as well. A OnePlus smartphone carrying the model number PYB110 has appeared on China’s 3C certification platform with support for 100W charging. The device could be the Chinese version of the upcoming OnePlus 16, although the company has not officially confirmed the model number.
Display technology could also move forward compared with the previous generation. Tipster Digital Chat Station has claimed that the OnePlus 16 could use a next generation BOE Oriental display. The OnePlus 15 uses a BOE AMOLED panel.
The processor is another area where buyers may see a major jump. Reports suggest that OnePlus could use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset in the OnePlus 16. If confirmed, this would position the handset among the company’s high performance flagship devices.
Gaming appears to be an important focus for the new phone. OnePlus has previously highlighted technologies including Wind Chaser Gaming Core, high refresh rate support and an E Sports Triple Chip system for the upcoming handset.

The reported OnePlus 16 specifications therefore suggest that the company is concentrating on several areas at once rather than making a single major change. Battery capacity, processing power, gaming features and photography could all receive attention in the new generation.
The expected 9000mAh battery is particularly notable because flagship smartphones typically balance battery size with overall weight and thickness. How OnePlus manages that balance will become clearer when the company provides the complete specifications.
The 165Hz display, meanwhile, is not entirely new to the series because the OnePlus 15 already supports the same maximum refresh rate. The upgrade may instead come through the underlying panel technology and other display improvements.
