Seat belt mandatory in Mumbai from November 1

The Mumbai police have issued an order that all passengers traveling in four-wheelers in the city must wear seat belts from November 1. A fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed even if one does not wear a seatbelt. Seat belt mandatory in Mumbai from November 1.

As per Section 194 of the Motor Vehicles Act 2019, driving without seat belt is a punishable offence. Vehicles without seatbelt facility have been given time till November 1 to adopt seatbelt. Police said that this rule is mandatory for all four-wheelers plying on Mumbai roads and action will be taken under Section 194 if not followed. This action has been taken in the background of many deaths in car accidents without wearing seat belts.

After the accident of former chairman of Tata Sons Cyrus Mistry, there was a lot of discussion that seat belts should be made mandatory for the safety of passengers in India. The central government has already given a clear instruction in this regard. This rule has been implemented in many states.

Now car passengers must wear seat belt in Karnataka too. The new rule has come into effect from October 19. Earlier it was mandatory for car driver to wear seat belt. Now it is mandatory for the driver as well as the passenger in the car to wear seat belt. The state police department has issued a circular in this regard.

After the death of Cyrus Mistry, the central government has taken strict rules for the safety of passengers. All passengers must wear seat belts. The Central Road and Transport Department has issued an order to the states in this regard.

According to this, the State Director General of Police has now issued an order to all District Superintendents of Police including Mysore City, Hubli Dharwad City, Mangalore, Belgaum, Kalaburagi, Bangalore City and Rural, KGF.

A circular has been issued and it has been instructed to follow the rules strictly. A fine of Rs 1,000 has been suggested for violating the seat belt rule. Violation of the rule twice or thrice will result in fine and severe punishment.
