Between Covid-19 cases rises in state day by day the CM Bommai-led Karnataka government on Friday lifted the weekend curfew with immediate effect. “The weekend curfew will be lifted with immediate effect. If the number of cases hospital admission increases, will do lockdown again, we will bring back strict restriction”, said Revenue Minister R Ashok.

The decision to lift the restriction in Karnataka was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister on Friday. “We will take into consideration how the third wave has unfolded and its future consequences. It’s impact on health infrastructure in the coming days to arrive at a decision. We will also discuss the action taken so far and the existing situation and decision would be taken on a scientific basis,” he had said before the meeting.

Karnataka Health minister K. Sudhakar had also given clear hints of the lifting of weekend and night curfews in the Karnataka. “It is going to be a Good Friday,” he had told reporters. “There are no admissions in ICU’s and ventilators due to Covid. It is clinically a good sign. The fatality rate has remained at five per cent only. The death rate is very low,” he added.

Continuing to register a surge in cases, Karnataka on Friday logged 48,049 new cases of COVID-19, and 22 fatalities, taking the tally to 34,25,002 and the death toll to 38,537. The state had recorded 47,754 fresh infections on Thursday.

Of the new cases today, 29,068 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 7,196 people being discharged and 6 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now at 3,23,143.

There were 18,115 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 30,63,292, a health department bulletin said. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 19.23 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.04 per cent.
