As previously reported by TOI, the TAC had also recommended that the government refuse free treatment in private hospitals to people who contract the disease and have not been vaccinated.

The TAC has also suggested that the government hold special vaccination campaigns in shopping malls, bus stops, train stations, hotels and lodges and at exhibitions. The report recommends that for government benefits such as rations from the public distribution system, electricity, domestic LPG, salaries, pensions, contract award, and even gasoline and diesel in bunk beds, one should be fully vaccinated. Incidentally, the Center has insisted that the vaccine is not mandatory, although it has urged people to take the injection.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday ruled out a lockdown, but said that the state government was taking utmost precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Basavaraj Bommai made the statement amid concerns about the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, which the World Health Organization has designated as a variant of concern.
