New Variant Omicron Virus, Karnataka Again lockdown After December 15

The Karnataka government on Saturday hinted at imposing lockdown-like measures as the amid the threats of new variant Omicron virus. New virus Spreading rapidly in market experts have instruct that need to lock Karnataka after December 15.

Two South African nationals have tested positive at Bengaluru airport have been found infected with Delta variant of Covid-19. Officials said that 584 people arrived at the Bengaluru airport from 10 high risk countries. Meanwhile 94 travellers arrived from South Africa. “Out of them (94 travellers), two who returned from South Africa (Indian nationals) tested positive for COVID on 11 and 20 November respectively. We sent it for sequencing and came to know that it’s Delta variant,” Bangalore Rural DC K Srinivas said.

Chief Minister Bommai said, the state has observed the COVID spread at schools, colleges and hostels in Dharwad, Bengaluru and Bengaluru rural areas, and increase in cases in neighbouring Kerala. He said the state government will have to immediately take precautionary measures to control it.

A total of 281 students and faculty have been tested positive for coronavirus in Karnatka’s SDM College of Medical Sciences on Saturday. According to Dharwad’s district magistrate Nitish Patil, six patients out of the total 281 cases are found symptomatic.

Patil said that the Covid caseload might increase as 1,822 test results are awaited. Initially, 66 people were tested positive in the SDM Medical college. Thereafter, the district administration tested more people including students, staff, and primary contacts of infected students. Yesterday, 116 more people, including teachers and students were infected from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister, Dr K Sudhakar on Saturday said that the people coming from new Covid-19 variant affected countries has to take RT-PCR after landing in Bengaluru. Dr K Sudhakar, said, “we are constantly in touch with the Union Health Ministry and have information that this new strain in South Africa, Hong Kong, Israel, & Botswana is very contagious & has overtaken the Delta variant.”
