Udupi: Death of pregnant teacher Usha by doctor negligence: family outrage in front of the hospital

Udupi: Post-delivery woman’s death on the back of doctors’ neglect. The families of the deceased are protesting in front of the hospital. The deceased is Usha (26 years), a resident of Kota.

Usha, a teacher at a school in Koteshwar, was admitted to the Koosamma Shambu Shetty memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Children hospital. Childbirth was performed by surgery on Saturday. Usha had a baby boy.

Maternal health has fluctuated after childbirth. She was immediately admitted to a private hospital. Usha died after treatment failure. The family alleges that Usha’s death was attributed to the negligence of Koosamma Shambu Shetty memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Children hospital. Families are protesting in front of the hospital for the same reason, demanding action against the guilty doctors.

Udupi city police have visited to this place. The District Surgeon and the District Medical Officer who visited the place said, immediately after the child birth the woman was having fainting and treated her immediately. But stated that the treatment was unresponsive. But family members are not willing to accept doctors’ claims.

Usha was admitted to Government Maternity Hospital. The hospital has been accused of not giving proper treatment after enrolling. This is not the first, such incident at the Government Maternity Hospital, there have been many cases in the past. But allegations have been heard in the public sector that the representatives are not taking action against the authorities.

The death toll of pregnant women and women post-delivery is rising in Udupi district. The government is not taking any action even though such cases are repeated often in government and private hospitals. On the other side, there is a demand for stringent action against doctors who are negligent.
