Karnataka: Omicron cases found in Udupi; five new cases of Omicron have been confirmed

Omicron cases found in Udupi Karnataka reported five more cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus on Sunday, taking the tally of such infections in the state to 19, Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said. All five are between 19 and 82 years of age and their travel history or contact with an international traveller is being ascertained.

Two cases of the Omicron variant were detected in Udupi, while Mangaluru, Dharwad and Bhadravathi reported one case each.

Five cases of Omicron have been confirmed on Dec 19th:

Dharwad: 54 yr male

Bhadravathi: 20 yr female

Udupi: 82 yr male and 73 yr female

Mangaluru: 19 yr female

Most of the patients are asymptomatic and are recuperating in self-isolation. They are all fully vaccinated. While Omicron was first reported in South Africa on November 24, India’s first two cases of the this heavily mutated version of the coronavirus were detected in Karnataka on December 2.

ising fears over the spread of the Omicron variant in the state, the government of Karnataka has said that the administration is likely to impose strict lockdown like restriction soon. Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar recently said that people in the state can be seen flouting COVID-19 norms.

The state government will soon issue a new set of advisories and regulations in order to make sure that the spread of the Omicron variant is contained. the health minister said, “Omicron is highly infectious. We should keep our guards on. Masking and social distancing should be practised. It is unfortunate that people are not wearing masks, we will be passing advisories and regulations on the same.”

Further, the TAC has assured the Karnataka government that there is no need for panic yet as the situation is not alarming, and is currently under control. It also said that the Karnataka administration has already readied its health infrastructures to battle the third wave of the pandemic.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also warned that the Omicron variant is spreading across the world at an alarming rate, and is most probably present in every country across the globe.
