Why was the price of milk increased?

16 milk unions of the state had submitted a request to KMF to revise the price of milk. They said that they would give the money for the price increase to the farmers. This put pressure on KMF and the government. In this regard, the Minister of Cooperation in the Legislative Council S.T. Somashekhar said that a decision will be taken after bringing it to the attention of the Chief Minister.

For the past 8 months, KMF has been requesting the state government to increase the price of milk. But the government has not responded. Thus, KMF has increased the price of milk by Rs 3 per liter without the approval of the state government, saying that farmers are in distress.

A unanimous decision in this regard was taken in the annual general meeting of all members of the KMF held earlier in Bangalore under the chairmanship of Balachandra Jarakiholi. All the 14 District Milk Unions of KMF expressed their support for the increase in milk price.

Many projects implemented by KMF have financial support from the government. Thus, while taking important decisions including price increase, the approval of the state government was sought. But this time, as the government is following a policy of delay, the unions have put pressure on the president to use the existing authority to order a rate hike.
