Karnataka: liquor sale ban for 5 days from Today

The sale of liquor has been banned from June 1 to June 4 due to voting for the Karnataka Legislative Council elections and the declaration of Lok Sabha election results on June 4. June 6 will be a dry day for the Vidhan Parishad elections. The orders were issued under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which prohibits the sale and consumption of liquor at least 48 hours before polling.

According to the State Excise Department officials, the production, sale, distribution, transportation and storage of liquor will be prohibited on the above mentioned dates. He said the order will apply to liquor shops, wine shops, bars, hotels, restaurants and any private place where liquor is served.

On Friday, there was a huge rush at liquor shops as people tried to stock liquor in advance. On Saturday, the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections will conclude with voting for 57 parliamentary seats in seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

After the polls are over, all eyes will be on the exit polls to see which alliance will form the country’s next government – the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or the Congress-led opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance) bloc.

The Election Commission (ECI) has barred news channels from announcing the exit poll results till 6 pm on June 1, the final day of voting.

An exit poll is a post-election survey similar to a pre-election poll. In an exit poll, voters are asked who they voted for after exiting the polling station. In the latter exercise, on the other hand, people are asked who they intend to vote for.
