According to the State Excise Department officials, the production, sale, distribution, transportation and storage of liquor will be prohibited on the above mentioned dates. He said the order will apply to liquor shops, wine shops, bars, hotels, restaurants and any private place where liquor is served.

On Friday, there was a huge rush at liquor shops as people tried to stock liquor in advance. On Saturday, the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections will conclude with voting for 57 parliamentary seats in seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

After the polls are over, all eyes will be on the exit polls to see which alliance will form the country’s next government – the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or the Congress-led opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance) bloc.

The Election Commission (ECI) has barred news channels from announcing the exit poll results till 6 pm on June 1, the final day of voting.
