Indian Metrological Department issued red alert in coastal Karnataka district amid heavy rains in Karnataka’s Udupi. The district’s Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M declared a holiday for Anganwadi schools & colleges on Thursday. An advisory has been issued to tourists and firemen today not to go to beaches. Karnataka Heavy Rainfall issued red alert, school and college closed.
Karnataka Heavy Rainfall Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Dr Sateesha BC, Uttara Kannada DC Dr Rajendra K.V and Hassan DC R Girish also declared a holiday today for Anganwadi schools and colleges in Alur, Arakalagud, & Sakleshpura. As heavy rains continued to affect the state, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday directed the officials to take immediate relief measures in the regions of heavy pouring.
“Rains have caused damage in many areas. I have spoken to DCs (district commissioners) concerned and asked them to take up required relief measures,” Bommai said. Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Belagavi, Hubballi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and other districts of the state have been experiencing a heavy downfall.

Not only this but even the arrival of flights was disrupted at the Mangaluru International Airport of Dakshina Kannada district. Notably, Dakshina Kannada is one of the worst-hit regions with incessant rains in the state causing landslides, uprooting trees and flooding houses and roads on Tuesday, the Indian Express reported. Former MLA Moiuddin Bava visited the Gurupura-Adyapady road following the landslides and called the deputy commissioner urging him to provide help to around 800 stranded families, who faced difficulties due to lack of an alternate road.
