Karnataka government issued fresh guidelines for Ganesh Chaturthi: Read before celebrate

The Karnataka government issued fresh guidelines for Ganesh Chaturthi has restricted the participation of citizens in the immersion of idols in this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi, which begins on September 10, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The immersion of idols will be completed by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) staffers this year in Bengaluru city areas. State Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that people have been identified and listed for idol immersion. “Citizens cannot be part of it,” the minister said, adding that the idols will have to be kept on designated tables after which swimmers and BBMP staffers will immerse them.

“Those organising the festival should be vaccinated and BBMP will also put up vaccination camps at the sites. Devotion and health will be collectively addressed,” Ashoka said According to the officials, the Ganesh idols should not be more than four feet tall and cannot be kept at pandals beyond 8 pm owing to the imposition of the night curfew that begins from 9 pm.

Only 20 people would be permitted at a time for prayers. Mobile tanks will also be stationed and will move around localities for immersion to help those who keep idols at home. Even here, the deadline will not be beyond 9 pm to complete the entire process.

“Those keeping for more than five days will have to manage their own immersion at homes. Information of immersion will be announced through loudspeakers,” Ashoka said.
