Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme: Government imposed new condition

Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme: The government has imposed conditions on the cash facility to be given instead of ‘Annabhagya’ thick rice and clarified that only families who have received ration food grains in the last three months are eligible to get the cash transfer facility.

On Thursday, the government issued an order to pay benefits through direct cash transfer (DBT) to beneficiaries who have Antyodaya and priority ration cards (BPL) in the state. The guidelines also clarified that Antyodaya cardholders with three or less than three members will not get cash transfer facility. This category will get 35 kg of food grains which is already given every month as usual. Antyodaya ration families with more than three members will get cash facility.

Accordingly, it has been decided to give 5 kg of extra rice to the beneficiary every month under Anna Bhagya Scheme and it has been decided to invite tenders for the purchase of rice. It said that till this process is completed and the bidders supply the food grains, money will be transferred in lieu of rice at Rs 34 per kg. 15-point guidelines have been issued for this process.

The ration families who received food grains in June are considered for cash transfer in July and the families who have provided their active bank account details by July 20 will get the cash facility in August. Cardholders who do not have bank account information should provide it to district level departmental staff and fair price shops.

Households who do not have a bank account should open an account or revive the account if it is inactive. Families with more than one head in the family will be excluded from the facility. According to the National Security Act, the senior woman in the ration card will be appointed as the head of the family and will be provided with the facility.

It has been clarified that the head of the second family will be disabled. Out of the existing 1,28,16,253 ration cards, 1,28,13,048 members have their Aadhaar number matched with the ration card, while only 3,016 members are yet to have their Aadhaar number matched with the ration card. Information will be provided through SMS or WhatsApp to the beneficiary’s mobile where the cash has been transferred.
