After receiving record rainfall in the past fortnight, Karnataka is set to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain in the next 48 hours. IMD Big Alert: heavy rainfall in Karnataka for next 48 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department has sounded an orange alert in many districts of the state.

Some parts of Dakshina Kannada received high intensity rain, while parts of Udupi witnessed sporadic showers. Orange alert is sounded in coastal districts till July 18. Beltangady taluk received copious amounts of rain. Landslied occurred near Charmady Ghat. Main road of Ujire is inundated.

A tree fell on electrical transformer near Laila due to which seven electricity poles got damaged. A road side drain collapsed near Kashibettu. More than eight houses were damaged at various parts in the taluk. Kumaradhara bathing ghat at Subramanya is on the verge of getting submerged.

In Mangaluru city rains were intermittent and the weather was alternating between cloud and sunshine. Six cars got damaged near Ganesh Mahal on K S Rao Road as a tin sheet fell on them. Three houses at Ullal got damaged due to rain. Sea erosion continued at Battappady and Ullal Sea Ground.

Shivamogga, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru districts are on orange alert, and Hassan district is on yellow alert for the next five days. North Karnataka districts of Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri are also on yellow alert.

The department has predicted heavy rain for two more days in coastal Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts, which have suffered heavy losses due to incessant rains. Due to heavy rain, some structures in Hampi – a Unesco World Heritage site and coming under the newly formed Vijayanagara district have been inundated.

The Tungabhadra bridge built during the time of Vijayanagar Kingdom, Purandara Mantap, Vidhi-Vidhana Mantap, Ram-Lakshman temple, and Chakrathirtha bathing zone are under water. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that 32 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the recent past in the state.

In lieu of this unfortunate tragedy, the state government has said that they will release Rs 500 Crores to restore public infrastructure damaged in heavy rainfall and floods across Karnataka. “Five persons are still missing and more than 300 persons have been evacuated to safe places against the backdrop of landslides and floods,” he added.
