Gruha Lakshmi Scheme: Now can apply through WhatsApp

Gruha Lakshmi Scheme: The Karnataka government has introduced a WhatsApp chatbot for the people of the state to apply for Gruha Lakshmi Yojana without any external hassles. This is the first time the state government is experimenting with a chatbot in an effort to reduce foot traffic at the Karnataka One and Bangalore One centers that accept physical applications.

During the Karnataka assembly election campaign, the Congress party announced this project as one of its five election promises. The scheme will provide a monthly income of Rs. 2,000 in cash assistance. About 1.5 crore women are expected to be beneficiaries of Gruha Lakshmi Yojana. Registration for this scheme started on 19th July.

How to use WhatsApp Chatbot for Gruha Lakshmi Scheme:

WhatsApp number 8147500500 which is the chatbot link has been provided by the government. After the user sends their details to the WhatsApp number, the chatbot app guides the user to complete the process. The chatbot then transfers the applications to BangaloreOne, KarnatakaOne and GramOne offices, there they are checked. According to media reports, more than seven lakh applications have been received by WhatsApp chatbot services.

Applicants need to provide their ration card, below poverty line (BPL) card, above poverty line (APL) card, or Antyodaya card along with their Aadhaar card. If someone does not link their bank account with Aadhaar, they can issue a passbook, officials said.

Reports suggest that the government is planning to implement chatbot services in the Shakti Yojana as well. The government has already asked women passengers to apply for Shakti smart cards for free bus travel and is likely to introduce a WhatsApp chatbot for the scheme soon.
