Mohi, who had come to India on a business visa that expired in 2017, is believed to have travelled from Goa to Gokarna, drawn by her interest in Hinduism and Indian spiritual traditions. She had set up a makeshift dwelling inside the natural cave, where she reportedly spent her days in prayer and meditation.

Authorities are currently investigating how the family sustained themselves in the wilderness. After the rescue, the police have arranged for their temporary stay at an ashram and have initiated the deportation process in coordination with the Russian Embassy. The family is expected to be moved to Bengaluru as part of the legal formalities.
