Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai puts brakes on plan to hike milk, curd prices

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai has stopped the order of KMF which increased the price of milk and curd by Rs 3 per liter. Nov. 14 in the morning, KMF has issued an order increasing the price of milk and curd by Rs 3. After this, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai said that there is no increase in the price of milk in Sedam, Kalburgi, and a decision will be taken after November 20.

What is the reason for these hasty decisions?

Appeal to KMF from 16 milk unions

Farmers are in distress and therefore 16 District Milk Unions requested KMF to raise the price by Rs 3 per litre. They also said that they will give the money for the price increase to the farmers. In this regard, KMF annual general meeting of all members was held in Bangalore under the chairmanship of Balachandra Jarakiholi.

A unanimous decision was taken in this regard in the meeting. All the 16 District Milk Unions of KMF expressed their support for the increase in milk price. Minister ST. Somashekhar assured

Approval of the state government should be obtained while taking important decisions including milk price hike. Therefore, this proposal was approved by the Cooperation Minister S.T. Somashekhar’s ear was put on. Thus ST. 3 per liter of milk in Somasekhar Vidhana Parishad. KMF has also decided to increase. He said that it will be brought to the attention of the CM to take a decision immediately.

After 8 months of promises, the government did not raise the issue of milk price hike. Due to this, the unions had put pressure on the president to use the authority to order a rate hike as the government was following a policy of delay.

Later, KMF president Balachandra Jarakiholi spoke at a program held in Hoolikatti village of Kittur taluk of Belgaum district on October 31 and said that the price of milk will be increased soon. KMF increased the price of milk within 15 days of making a statement. But now CM Bommai has blocked the decision of KMF.
