Heavy Rain in Bengaluru: One death, 40 houses flooded after heavy rains

Bengaluru: One person was killed in the wake of heavy rain in Bengaluru which left several areas inundated and uprooted trees in many parts of the city Sunday night. The city got a respite from rains on Monday night.

Officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a cloudburst triggered the downpour and Bengaluru may continue to receive heavy rainfall with thunderstorms for the next 48 hours. The IMD has declared a yellow alert, which indicates moderate rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm, in Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban.

According to reports, a 71-year-old hotelier was killed, three cows died, some 40 houses flooded, 25 trees uprooted, and 13 cars were damaged across the city. IMD data record shows that central Bengaluru recorded 63.8 mm of rain, HAL received 59.4 mm, and Kempegowda International Airport witnessed 8.7 mm of rainfall.

Several major roads in Koramangala, Hennur Main Road, Annaswamy Mudilar Road, Old Madras Road, Avenue Road, and others were reported waterlogged. A cowshed in Akkamahadevi Kayanamantapa, RR Nagar, also got flooded by the rainwater. Reports show that about three cows had died, and six cows and six goats have gone missing.
