Anna Bhagya Scheme: The Karnataka Cabinet has taken an important decision to give money instead of five kg of rice as Congress is struggling to distribute free rice, one of the pre-election guarantees. This decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Food Minister Muniyappa informed about this.

Ministers HK Patil and KH Muniappa announced the decisions of the cabinet meeting in a press conference. Along with this, Annabhagya Yojana YD BPL card holders will get 5 kg of rice and money in lieu of other 5 kg of rice. Cabinet meeting decided to give money to people instead of rice.

It has been decided to give money to people instead of 5 kg of rice. Rs 34 per kg of rice and Rs 170 per month for BPL ration card holders. We give Muniyappa said that the money will be transferred to the account of allotters from the month of July itself.

We are giving money as an alternative system only till we get rice. Muniyappa said that after getting the rice, 10 kg of rice will be given under the Annabhagya Yojana. The Karnataka government had approached the Central Food Corporation to purchase rice for the implementation of the free rice scheme.

However, there was no agreement for additional rice supply from there. Later, Minister Muniyappa met and held talks with Union Minister Piyush Goyal. However, the central government refused to provide additional rice. This also led to a tussle between the state and the central government. It was due to political rivalry between Congress and BJP leaders in the state.
