Age will not be the main criteria if these players decide to continue playing for India, he said. However, the youngsters will need to perform well to retain their place in the team. Butt believes Virat Kohli, who will turn 39 in 2027, will still pose a threat to his opponents when the ODI World Cup takes place in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. “Virat Kohli will definitely play in the 2027 ODI World Cup if he is fit,” he said. Virat Kohli’s best performance was in the 2023 ODI World Cup where India lost to Australia in the final.

He scored three centuries and six fifties in 11 innings and was awarded player of the tournament. With 765 runs, Virat Kohli holds the record for most runs in a World Cup in one edition. Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 centuries with his 50th ODI century in the semi-final against New Zealand.
