RCB pay Tribute to Virat Kohli Ahead of IPL 2022

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stunned cricket fans on Wednesday evening by announcing that Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as India’s ODI skipper from immediate effect. RCB pay Tribute to Virat Kohli Ahead of IPL 2022 after his stint as ODI skipper ends.

Rohit will now lead India in both the ODI and T20 format. Earlier, Rohit was appointed as T20I captain after Kohli’s decision to quit T20I captaincy after the 2021 T20 World Cup. His first assignment as permanent T20I captain came last month in a home series against New Zealand which the Men in Blue won 3-0.

There was widespread speculation over the status of ODI captaincy since Virat Kohli’s resignation as T20I skipper. While Kohli had made his intention to leave leadership duties in the shortest format known, Already Virat Kohli step down from RCB captain. There were doubts on the 50-over captaincy as that would mean India having two different captains in white-ball cricket.

Following BCCI’s big announcement, social media was flooded with reactions from all corners of the cricket fraternity. Kohli’s IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore RCB paid him rich tribute as his stint as an ODI skipper came to an end. In a heartfelt tweet, RCB wrote, “Thank you Captain Virat Kohli for leading Team India through an emphatic and aggressive era in white-ball cricket! Your brand of cricket will be a template for the future to follow.”

Virat Kohli is statistically one of India’s most successful captains in the 50-over format. He led India in 95 ODIs out of which the Men in Blue won 65. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India took part in two ICC events in 50-over cricket in which they reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy and made the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Australian cricketer continues to remain active on social media, frequently replying to his Indian fans in social media David Warner confirmed that he wants to play for RCB in IPL 2022. However, a fan on Instagram requested David Warner to join the RCB who have retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj. Warner has responded on the fan comment with emojis which suggest that he could be seen playing along with Kohli and his compatriot Maxwell.

In major development RCB is set to bring new captain from west indies. While the RCB franchise have to rebuild and form a new set of core players, the Bengaluru unit will also have to name a new captain after Kohl stepped aside from the top job post IPL 2021. While some believe Maxwell will land up with the top job, many are of the opinion that KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, David Warner or some new face will be added and made the next RCB captain.
