After Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain and AB de Villiers announced his retirement, RCB pushed for a captaincy option in the Tata IPL 2022 auction, picking up Faf du Plessis. The RCB has called for a press conference on March 12 at 4 PM for the same. Both Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell both have captaincy experience. However, Maxwell won’t be available for the RCB till at least April 6 as he will be joining the team late due to his marriage to fiancé Vini Raman later this month. The South African batter was bought for Rs 7 crore by RCB on Day 1 of the mega auction in Bengaluru.

Royal Challengers Bangalore fended off a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings to buy Faf du Plessis for Rs 7 crore from the list of 10 marquee players. Du Plessis has been one of the most consistent players in the IPL so far as the former CSK star has scored 2935 runs in 100 matches in the IPL. Several experts and former cricketers were of the opinion that Faf du Plessis is the right man to take RCB forward, given that he has already led the South African cricket team in the past.
