IPL 2024 Big Update: Ruturaj Gaikwad CSK Captain for IPL 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing the IPL 2024 schedule for the first 17 days, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will open the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 22. Chennai Super Kings will focus on defending their IPL title, aiming to overtake Mumbai Indians to become the most successful team in the cash-rich league. But before the start of the season, reports say that MS Dhoni will hand over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad midway through the IPL 2014 edition.

However, this comes as a surprise as former India cricketer Akash Chopra had previously opined that any of the 10 franchises would leave the captaincy mid-season. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Akash Chopra said, “Why do I think we’ll see a team change its captain in the middle of this IPL season? Go?? Let’s wait and see”.

Although the former cricketer-commentator didn’t name anyone, the first name that came to mind was CSK captain MS Dhoni. The 42-year-old has age on his side and is battling some knee injuries that he underwent surgery on last year. However, it remains to be seen whether there will be any leadership change during IPL 2024.

The CSK also made a change in their leadership during IPL 2022. MS Dhoni returned to the captaincy in the 15th edition after Ravindra Jadeja decided to call it quits midway through the season.
