First, there was a rivalry between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders to buy Gautam. Both teams are ready to bid worth Rs 7.5 crore to Gautam. CSK then entered the bid. He finally bought Gautam for a hefty price tag of Rs 9.25 crore.

This made Gautam the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history. Krishnappa Gautam broken Karnal Pandya’s record of Rs 8.8 crore paid by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018. In 2016, Delhi Capital also bought Pawan Negi for Rs 8.5 crore. So, if we talk about Krishnappa Gautam, the CSK bought him for Rs 9.25 crore but he was not allowed to play a single match in the entire season of IPL 2021. Gautam then made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka.

For IPL 2022 Chennai Super Kings retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad in that order. Jadeja was retained for Rs 16 crore, while Dhoni took home Rs 12 crore. Ali was retained for Rs 8 crore while Gaikwad bagged Rs 6 crore.
