Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba has decided to wade into Karnataka’s Hijab row as the French footballer shared a video about the controversy on Thursday. One of the finest footballers in the modern era of the beautiful game, French playmaker Pogba took to social media to open up about the ongoing hijab row in India.

The 2018 World Cup winner with the France football team has extended solidarity to Muslim students of Karnataka. Reacting to the ongoing hijab row in India’s Karnataka, the French international posted a video through Instagram Stories. Pogba’s latest social media activity on the photo and video sharing platform has garnered the attention of Twitter users in India. Pogba’s name was mentioned in over 4k tweets on the microblogging site.

The Manchester United star is one of the most followed footballers on social media across all platforms. Pogba’s reaction has come after a major controversy over the hijab (headscarf worn by Muslim girls) has engulfed the state of Karnataka. The hijab controversy began in December when a few hijab-clad students of a government’s pre-university college in Udupi were allegedly not allowed to enter the classroom.

In a bid to stage a protest against the Muslim students, some Hindu students showed up at the educational institution wearing saffron scarves. France was the first country in Western Europe to impose a ban on face-covering Islamic veils in 2010. Earlier in 2004, France had reportedly banned wearing headscarves in French state schools. Muslim women footballers are also tackling the hijab ban in France.

On the work front, Manchester United star player Pogba was hailed by fans and followers of the Red Devils for his recent performance in his team’s draw at Burnley on Tuesday. Pogba, who is in speculations about leaving Old Trafford before the start of the next season, struck in the 18th minute by converting Luke Shaw’s cross. Pogba’s goal was his first strike for the Red Devils after 12 months.
