Ahmedabad choose Ashish Nehra, Gary Kirsten for coaching staff in IPL 2022

The IPL 2022 season is all set to welcome two new teams in form of Ahmedabad and Lucknow and the teams are busy building their coaching staff around the same. Ahmedabad choose Ashish Nehra, Gary Kirsten for coaching staff in IPL 2022. Former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra will be Ahmedabad IPL franchise’s head coach during the Indian Premier League IPL 2022.

World Cup-winning former India coach Gary Kirsten will be the ‘Mentor’ of the franchise. Ahmedabad team choose England opener Vikram Solanki is in line to become ‘Director of Cricket’.

Ahmedabad’s Coaching Staff for IPL 2022:

1. Head Coach: Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra is an Indian cricket coach and former cricketer who played in all formats of the game. Nehra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in late 2017, with the Twenty20 International match against New Zealand on 1 November 2017 at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground his last appearance.

Previous India quick bowler Ashish Nehra will be Ahmedabad IPL establishment’s lead trainer during the 2022 Indian Premier League season while England opener of bygone eras Vikram Solanki is in line to become ‘Overseer of Cricket’.

“To the extent I have heard, they have marked Ashish as their lead trainer and somebody who might be in general charge of the establishment. Solanki will be the ‘Head of Cricket’ and furthermore expected to bend over as batting mentor and Kirsten will be in a mentorship job,” a senior IPL source told PTI on states of namelessness.

2. Mentor: Gary Kirsten

Gary Kirsten is a South African cricket coach and former cricketer. He has coached the Indian Cricket Team as well as the South African Cricket team. Kirsten played 101 Test matches and 185 One Day Internationals for South Africa between 1993 and 2004, mainly as an opening batsman.

World Cup-winning former India coach Gary Kirsten will be the ‘Mentor’ of the franchise which is expecting to get its formal ‘Letter of Intent’ (LOI) during the month. “The Ahmedabad franchise can’t announce it formally as it is a BCCI diktat and they can only make a formal announcement after they get the LOI.

The head honchos of Ahmedabad franchise has already interviewed the trio and short-listed them for the season,” the source said. “To the extent I have heard, they have marked Ashish as their lead trainer and somebody who might be in general charge of the establishment. Solanki will be the ‘Head of Cricket’ and furthermore expected to bend over as batting mentor and Kirsten will be in a mentorship job,” a senior IPL source told media on states of namelessness.

3. Director of Cricket and Batting coach: Vikram Solanki

Vikram Singh Solanki is an English cricket coach and former first-class cricketer. In limited over international cricket, he played over 50 One Day Internationals for England as a batsman and occasional off-spinner. In county cricket, he played for Surrey, having previously spent 17 years at Worcestershire.

In January 2018, Solanki was appointed deputy head coach at Surrey CCC,[4] and in June 2020 he was promoted to head coach by Surrey’s Director of Cricket, Alec Stewart, in succession to Michael di Venuto. During this time he was also a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore coaching staff in the Indian Premier League, where he worked as the assistant coach.

In addition to Solanki’s playing and coaching roles, he has also held cricket administration roles. In March 2009 he was appointed Chairman of The Professional Cricketer’s Association, where he also held the role of Interim Chief Executive and in March 2017 he became FICA President,succeeding former West Indian International, Jimmy Adams.
