The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA alliance has an early lead in 18 of Karnataka’s 28 seats, while the Congress has an early lead in 19, according to early trends.

In Karnataka, there is a fierce contest between the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance. According to preliminary data from the Election Commission (EC), BJP alliance Janata Dal (Secular) is currently leading in 2 seats except Hassan. BJP candidate Dr. CN Manjunath has taken over 50000 vote lead against DK Suresh in Bangalore Rural.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BJP’s campaign with great pomp and show and took issue with bad governance and widespread corruption in the state, while the Congress in turn criticized the BJP for increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and domestic gas.

The old party also took up the issue of electoral bonds to corner the BJP. Congress is in power in the state, Siddaramaiah is the Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar is the Deputy Chief Minister. On the other hand, JDS contested in three constituencies: Hassan, Mandya and Kolar.
