Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Alert till March 29

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather forecast has predicted moderate rains with widespread lightening with thunder, lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected till March 29.

In a post on X, the IMD wrote, “Until March 26, thundershowers with rain are expected over West Bengal, Sikkim and the sub-Himalayan region.” Heavy rain or snowfall is forecast over Arunachal Pradesh on March 26. The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning over the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar for the next five days.

Additionally, a new Western Disturbance is set to affect the West Himalayan region from March 26 night, which will bring scattered light rain with thunder and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, isolated to snowfall over Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on from March 26 to March 29. Rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur in Rajasthan on Monday.

Meanwhile, the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 29.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasonal average as reported by the IMD. Partly cloudy weather is expected on Monday with minimum and maximum temperatures hovering around 16 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Further, the IMD has warned that India is likely to witness extreme temperatures and extreme heat waves during the month of April. The IMD has warned that the states of Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will be in the grip of severe heat waves from March onwards. These parts include parts of northeastern peninsular India Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and northern interior Karnataka and parts of Maharashtra and Odisha.
