Supreme Court ordered the release of Rajiv Gandhi’s killers

The Supreme Court has issued an order releasing the killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi . The Supreme Court has ordered the release of Nalini Sriharan and five other convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The Tamil Nadu government had recommended to the Supreme Court for the early release of Nalini Sriharan and RP Ravichandran, who are serving life sentences in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

We have already served 30 years in prison. The convicts S Nalini and RP Ravichandran had stated in their petition that the Tamil Nadu government had agreed to reduce the sentence of the 7 convicts of Rajiv Gandhi’s murder 4 years ago. The Supreme Court issued an order releasing the killers of Rajiv Gandhi. The Supreme Court has ordered the release of Nalini Sriharan and five other convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The Tamil Nadu government has supported the petition filed by the killers of Rajiv Gandhi in the Supreme Court seeking their early release from jail. Nalini and Ravichandran had approached the Supreme Court seeking their release like their co-accused AG Perarivalan. Now the Supreme Court has given an important order.

In the cabinet meeting held on September 9, 2018, the amnesty petitions of 7 convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case were considered. It was decided to recommend the Governor to revoke his life sentence in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 161 of the Constitution. Apart from Nalini, Sriharan, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Pius and Ravichandran were jailed in the 1991 former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
