Omicron Cases Blast in India, found 653 cases in country

The India nationwide case tally of the Omicron variant of coronavirus has reached 653, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.  Delhi has recorded the most cases of Omicron in the country (142), followed by Maharashtra (141), Kerala (57), Gujarat (49) and 43 (Rajasthan), the health ministry had said in a bulletin.

With the surge in cases, the Centre issued a fresh advisory to all states and union territories, asking them not to let the guard down. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said states and union territories may consider imposing need-based, local curbs and restrictions, to control the crowd during the festive season.

A number of states have already imposed curbs on the congregation of people besides night curfew. In view of the emergence of the Omicron cases, Delhi, Karnataka, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments have already imposed a night curfew and restrictions on gatherings.

After Omicron cases rised in India The Union Health Ministry on Monday issued new guidelines for Covid vaccination of children between 15-18 years, precaution dose to health care and frontline workers, and 60+ population with comorbidities. For those healthcare workers and frontline workers who have received two doses, another dose of Covid vaccine would be provided from 10th January.

The prioritization and sequencing of this precaution dose would be based on the completion of 9 months from the date of administration of 2nd dose reads the guidelines. “Covid vaccination of children in the age group of 15-18 years to be started from 3rd January 2022.

For such beneficiaries, vaccination option would be Covaxin only,” the ministry said in the guidelines After omicron cases surge. All persons aged 60 years and above with comorbidities who have received two doses of Covid vaccine, will on doctor’s advice be provided with a precaution dose from 10 January.

The prioritisation and sequencing of this precaution dose would be based on the completion of 9 months i.e. 39 weeks from the date of administration of second dose. All frontline workers and citizens aged 60 or above with comorbidities will be able to access the vaccination for precaution dose through their existing Co-Win account. Eligibility of such beneficiaries for the precaution dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose as recorded in the Co-Win system.
