Washington: The agreement between US and Pakistan regarding the supply of F-16 Fighter Jet has upset India. The US government responded on Monday (Sep 26) after India’s Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar revealed the issue. Jaishankar outright rejected the American argument that these warplanes will help the Pakistan Army in its fight against terrorism. Everyone knows where and against whom F-16 fighter jets are used. While interacting with non-resident Indians in America, while answering a question, he indirectly objected to the US administration by saying, ‘You cannot fool anyone by reacting like this about the use of F-16’. After Jaishankar raised his objection, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price clarified his government’s position at a media conference. “Our (US) relationship with Pakistan and India are separate issues. We do not take into account how India and Pakistan are related to each other. Both countries have friendly relations with us. In different ways, both the countries are the closest countries to us’, he made a statement meaning that the snake should not die and the stick should not break.

Neither relations with India nor relations with Pakistan are independent. He said that America shares many values with both countries.

We cooperate to develop good relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Perpetuation of instability and violence in Afghanistan is not in Pakistan’s interest. We have regular discussions with Pakistan on providing support to the people of Afghanistan. America will continue to make continuous efforts to improve the life and livelihood of the people of Afghanistan. Ned Price said that we will put pressure on the Taliban to show commitment to their previous promises.

We have seen the disaster caused by the floods in Pakistan. He said that we have provided billions of dollars in aid for relief. He said the floods have created a humanitarian crisis in Pakistan, declining to elaborate.
